Winner of the Golden Lion at the 1959 Venice Film Festival, directed by Roberto Rossellini and featuring world cinema icon Vittoria de Sica (The Bicycle Thief), Il Generale Della Rovere is a film based on the true story of Emanuele Bardone, who, during the height of WWII, exploits his fellow Italians by telling them that he will find their missing loved ones in exchange for money. When he attempts to save a man who had already been executed, he is turned over by the man’s wife and is forced to become a spy in the Nazi prison for one of the German commanders, Colonel Mueller (Hannes Messemer). Under the false identity of Generale della Rovere, he is ordered to bring the Italian resistance fighters among the prisoners out into the open.
The film will be shown in Italian with English subtitles.

Sunday February 22, 2:00 – 3:00pm (ET) | 11:00am – 12:00pm (PST) Online Seminar via Zoom – hosted by Dante Society of BC.
Join architect and author Sarah Robinson for a compelling exploration of how the built world affects our well-being and our connections to one another. Inspired by her new book, The Architecture of Resonance, Robinson reveals how architecture “acts”—guiding our movements, moods, and interactions in ways we often overlook. From the physics of resonance to the poetry of everyday life, she makes a powerful case for designing environments that support healthier, more meaningful and more sustainable ways of living.
Event organized by the Dante Alighieri Society of BC, Vancouver under the patronage of the Consulate General of Italy in Vancouver.
